On the Elders' Agenda
1 Timothy 3 speaks of Elders “managing the household of God.” At this time of the year and especially following COVID there’s quite a lot of programmes, dates, and plans that need managing. We wanted to get better at showing what we’re working on so you can join us in prayer and are ready to chip in on things at our members meeting in a few weeks (21st Sept). Many decisions are wisdom calls. Church like a household is messy and there’s rarely a neat solution.
Removing restrictions.
We’re cautiously removing restrictions - as of last Sunday there was no booking and most chairs were back in. Generally we’re not wearing facemasks in any setting barring the 10.30 service because it’s crowded and we’re singing. But of course, people are free to wear them in any of our groups.
Restarting Tuesday Day time homegroup (10.30am at the Tab).
This is so important for many who can’t get out in the evenings because of transport, health (often worse in the evening), or the light.
Restarting TBC (early teens group on Sunday mornings).
Some teens have been patiently sitting through adult sermons for a whole term. Others haven’t come back. We launched the group again last Sunday.
Ramping up evangelism. Having been mostly impossible during Covid we want to think through putting evangelism back at the heart of the Tab life. To start with that means a big push on the Community Celebration service on 3rd Oct.
Refreshing the website. Often people’s first encounter with the Tab is through our website. So we want it to be particularly pitched for the newcomer and non-Christian. Over the next few weeks we’ll be taking some fresh photos for it.
Also on our list to think about is the mid-week prayer meeting, Sunday evening church, and finding a new buildings Deacon. We need a measure of patience, to try to prioritise what’s most needed for the church at this stage of its life, and a big thankfulness for what’s already going so well. Whether everything quite as we’d each like – it’s God’s household! We’re his family and he lives with us.
