New Church Video

 

 

I hope you enjoyed watching this new introductory video at the members meeting and that it proves a helpful link to people new to the Tab. 

There are lots of way of packaging what church is about.  But in making the video, here are four things I wanted to touch on -
 
1. Our name.  I think the obvious question for anyone on the website or at our front door is – what exactly does the church’s name mean.  “Tabernacle” and “evangelical” have rich meanings but many Christians let alone non-Christians will be confused by them.  I wanted to explain those terms in very simple ways.  

2. Our focus on the Bible.  There are lots of things that make the Tab great and the church I want to be at.  We’re a loving family of all ages, we’re welcoming, there’s real honesty, we love Jesus.  I hope I’ve captured something of all these (and as we add some photos that should add to that story).  But I wanted to especially emphasise the place of the Bible for two reasons.  First it’s what folk from solid churches moving to the area will have been taught to look out for.  Second it’s one way we really stand out. Because of the trend to say the Bible isn’t really God’s word, or moves to update the position on marriage and gender for example, the Bible is being eroded from many angles.  We want to be clear that we stand firm.  But we do that with…

3. Humility.    I wanted to emphasis that we’re “all works in progress and a bit of a mess.”  Some may expect superiority or self righteousness from a Bible teaching church but of course it’s the gospel that keeps us humble. 
 
4. Big heartedness.  Again some could think of us as narrow or only for a certain type.  But the gospel teaches us to have wide hearts and open doors like Jesus did.  I wanted to give that sense.  Just as Jesus came “full of grace and truth” I hope we can be known as that sort of church. Uncompromising on the truth of the Bible, but enormously gracious to all kinds of people.
